Flamingo plants, as they're commonly known in reference to their dramatic leaves, are said to represent happiness and abundance.
Here’s a little secret: the beautiful heart-shaped “flowers” are not flowers! What makes these durable, easy-care houseplants so appealing are pink waxy leaves called spathes that flare from the base of the fleshy spike.
These indoor plants are epiphytes, a type of air plant that comes from warm, tropical regions where they either grow on the surface of other plants or in rich organic humus. Therefore as a houseplant, the Anthurium is extremely durable and requires little care.
Light: She needs a good amount of light to thrive. She’ll love a bright room, but prefers to be away from direct sun.
Watering: likes her soil lightly moist, but never soggy. Water her when the top two inches of soil are dry.
Humidity : Anthurium prefer higher humidity but do well to adapt to average home humidity. You can increase humidity by placing the plant on a watered pebble tray or using a humidifier.
Care: anthurium plants does not require too much fertilizer. The plant only needs to be fertilized with a one-quarter strength fertilizer once every three to four months.
Temperature: The Anthurium prefers very warm temperatures, but don’t worry – these plants are extremely adaptable and can flourish in typical household temperature ranges. However, be careful of temperature extremes.
Toxicity: Important! Anthurium are poisonous if ingested, so be very careful if you have pets and/or small children. The sap can also cause skin irritation.
Origin: Originates from the tropical rainforests of Colombia, Guatemala and the Amazon region in Brazil.
